Massive natural ruby. In some you can see its hexagonal shape.
It is a reddish gem, if it is purple, it is called balaj. It owes its color to the iron and chromium metals with which this variety of corundum is associated. Red corundums are called ruby and all other colors, including pink, are called sapphire.
Their uses are not restricted to jewelry, they have been used in the manufacture of mechanical watches, in which they serve as support for the axes subjected to rotation, since their hardness resists wear by friction. They also have important industrial applications for creating helium-ruby and pure ruby lasers.
