Precious natural bivalve fossils in good condition. You can see the parts like the lunula, the umbo and the ligament .
They are the ancestors of the current clams and seashells such as coquinas, clams, scallops... They used to live in the waters near the coasts.
Only the valves (shells) fossilize, which constitute the exoskeleton, composed mainly of calcite and aragonite, the latter being the one that gives the current shells an opalescent appearance, although during fossilization it is transformed into calcite.
